Creative Critical Reflection

​ How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or   issues?      In terms of a social issue, our film raises awareness of family dysfunction and abuse. During our film, we  try to convey the sense of fear that many victims of abuse face through our use of cinematography and  sound design.  We tried to challenge many traditional cinematic conventions by presenting what is going on in an unfiltered way, that makes it clear to the viewer that some sort of abuse is being experienced by our protagonist. Usually seen in psychological thriller films are high and low-angled shots, which our film showcases in a multitude of ways, as our main character (Noah) hears his father coming home, and as he goes into the closet to hide from him. Don't Look Up: Editing Techniques Analysis

  Directed by Adam McKay is the movie Don't Look Up. It was released in 2021 and it shows the efforts of two astronomers trying to warn the world about the effects that a comet heading toward Earth could have. The story is immersive, but one thing that made it stand out was its use of editing techniques, which goes hand-in-hand with its stellar cinematography. It was nominated for Best Film Editing by the Academy Awards, and Best Edited Film Feature by the Eddie Awards, so in this essay, we'll explore the techniques that helped the movie become nationally recognized. One of the techniques that mainly stood out to me throughout the duration of this movie was the jump cut. Jump cuts are, at their core, just shots that involve cutting out a portion of them to create a sudden jump in space or time. Pre-Production Character Profiles Child; Noah Life Stats:  Just like any child, they go to school and spend most of their day there, and in their free time, they play around with toys and explore around the house, but usually quietly, as to not disturb their father.  Physical Description:  A child with bright red hair, pasty skin and appearance due to the lack of going outside, almost like a vampire. Background:  Their mother is out of the picture, and they are living with their father, who isn’t exactly the best parental figure, or even person.   Personal Relationships:  Their father, since he is the only person they are really allowed to talk to without getting into trouble.  Psychological Description:  A happy child until their mother left the picture, which led their father to take out his anger on them rather than to work it out on his own or elsewhere.
